On the Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting
A Foreign Ministers meeting of the intergovernmental regional forum Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), chaired by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, took place on the fringes of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22. ACD comprises 31 states of the Asia-Pacific Region and the Middle East. Russia was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Yakovenko.
Participants reviewed the preparations for the 9th Annual Meeting of ACD Foreign Ministers, which will be held in Tehran this year. On the proposal of Iran, which took over the ACD chairmanship, they approved the theme for that meeting, "Towards Asian solidarity and unity: to achieve prosperity, peace and justice."
They discussed questions of further development and cooperation on major activities of the ACD, as well as exchanged views on pressing international problems.
Russia considers the ACD as an important platform for promoting multilateral cooperation in the region, and to strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the countries of Asia.
The text of a summary of Alexander Yakovenko's statement is posted on the Russian MFA website.
