On December 7, Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov met with the ambassadors of the member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Moscow.

The diplomats reviewed the events held in 2016 to mark the 20th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership and the implementation of decisions from the anniversary meeting of our leaders and the Ten in Sochi on May 19-20. They emphasised the importance of continued close coordination of efforts towards raising Russia-ASEAN relations to the strategic level.

Special emphasis was placed on developing practical cooperation in such priority areas as the need to ensure security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, counter new challenges and threats, expand trade and investment ties, consolidate transport infrastructure links and step up academic, youth and cultural exchanges.

The drafting of joint programmes for ASEAN’s 50th anniversary in 2017 was another focus of the meeting.
