Press release on First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov’s meeting with Director of the Arctic Council Secretariat Magnus Johannesson
On October 14, First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov met with Director of the Arctic Council Secretariat Magnus Johannesson at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The officials spoke about the central role of the Council in forming a constructive agenda in the Arctic region. Mr Titov confirmed Russia’s intention to strengthen multilateral interaction in the Arctic and emphasised the importance of maintaining depoliticised cooperation as part of the Council.
In view of the growing interest of non-regional states and international organisations in the Arctic, Mr Titov and Mr Johannesson noted the need to improve interaction with observers in the Arctic Council.
They also discussed practical issues of the activity of the Secretariat and the Council’s agencies.
