Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Hatami a telegram of condolence over the earthquake in southeastern Iran.
The message reads in part:
"I am deeply shocked by news of the earthquake in Iran, which entailed a considerable loss of life and destruction.
"Please accept my sincere condolences to the leadership and people of Iran over the tragedy that took place."
