Alexander Yakovenko, the Official Spokesman of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Answers a Question from Russian and Foreign Media About the Radioelectronic Center in Lourdes, Cuba

1878-18-10-2001

Question: Please comment on the Cuban government's remarks about its disagreement with the decision of the Russian side to withdraw the radioelectronic center from Lourdes in Cuba.

Answer: We have long since been discussing this question with our Cuban colleagues, and the decision cannot be unexpected. I want to especially stress: we would not like that this step would affect the character of bilateral relations, which based on the top-level agreements are developing actively and to mutual benefit. Of course, this applies also to our bilateral military-technological cooperation. As to consultations, they have been going on continuously, also now, via the most diverse channels.
