Forthcoming full-format round of talks between the P5+1 and Iran
On the 26 September, during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the P5+1 international mediators (Russia, United Kingdom, China, United States, France and Germany) on Iran’s Nuclear Programme, as well as the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Union, Catherine Ashton, and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on the side-lines of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, an agreement was reached to hold the next full-format round of talks between the P5+1 and Iran on the 15-16 October. The Iranian delegation will be headed by Mohammad Javad Zarif. The P5+1 will maintain its previous format of participation at the level of Catherine Ashton and the policy directors of foreign services.
The plan is to discuss in detail the available propositions of the P5+1, to fully work through the ideas of the new government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to settle the situation, which were first generally stated by Mohammad Javad Zarif during the ministerial meeting in New York and were positively perceived by the P5+1 ministers.
We expect the general constructive disposition of the P5+1 and the Iranian party to allow the group to make specific steps to settle the situation during the forthcoming round of talks. To attain this goal, all parties to the talks’ process must show their political will, and readiness to compromise.
The Russian party is ready for this collective work to come to tangible practical results.
