PRESS RELEASE

About trial against Russian MV Myre Seadiver crew in Nigeria

1404-09-07-2013

On July 9, the next trial was held in Lagos against the Russian crew of MV Myre Seadiver detained in October 2012 in Nigeria. After brief oral statements of the parties, the judge postponed the trial – now until October 8.

The decision made deeply disappoints the Russian party. We presumed that after careful examination of case files by the Nigerian justice an acquitting judgement will finally be delivered to Russian sailors.

Thus, as of today we managed to attain withdrawal of charges from eight Russian sailors of MV Myre Seadiver, who have already returned home. Seven Russian crew members are still in the territory of the residential complex of the Embassy of Russia in Lagos waiting for their judgement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Embassy of Russia in Abudja will continue providing legal and other support to our nationals, soundly expecting for the delivery of final verdict of their acquittal.
