About the meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with Minister of Justice of Israel Tzipi Livni responsible for negotiations with Palestinians in the Government of Israel
On July 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Minister of Justice of Israel Tzipi Livni responsible for negotiations with Palestinians in the Government of Israel, who was in Moscow with a working visit.
During the talk, they paid particular attention to the prospects of advancement of the Middles East peace process focusing on the efforts to overcome the drawn out deadlock in the negotiation process between Israeli and Palestinians. To that end, Sergey Lavrov and Tzipi Livni shared their commitment to a solution involving the two countries, which is able to satisfy true expectations of the Palestinian and Israeli people as much as possible. They also noted the importance of creation of proper atmosphere for restarting Palestinian-Israeli talks, where on-coming steps of both parties are required.
Within the framework of discussion of regional agenda, they had a substantial exchange of opinions about the situation in Egypt and Syria. The Russian party confirmed its principal position in favour of peaceful, political settlement of crisis situations, respecting territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of countries. Sergey Lavrov highlighted that Russia continues active work to convene an international conference on Syria as soon as possible without preconditions for the purposes of implementation of provisions of Geneva Communiqué of 30 June 2012.
When reviewing certain topical aspects of Russian-Israeli relations, a mutual disposition to further strengthening of multidimensional cooperation in the interests of the people of the two countries, connected by historical ties of friendship, and ensuring stable and universal peace in the Middle East.
